8.1 Although, though, even though, even if

Although and though are connectors. They both express concession; though is more colloquial, although is more formal, e.g.:

Although/Though Jean had a headache, she managed to finish the assignment. (Aunque Jean tuvo dolor de cabeza, pudo acabar la tarea.)

Though (but not although) is also a sentence adverb, e.g.:

Our prospects weren't very bright. We didn't do so badly, though. (Nuestras expectativas no eran muy prometedores. No obstante, no nos salieron tan mal.)

Even though and even if emphasise the notion of concession, e.g.:

Even though the survey was well carried out, it didn't prove anything. (A pesar de que la encuestra estaba bien hecha, no demostró nada.)

The survey didn't prove anything even though it was well carried out. (La encuestra no demostró nada, a pesar de que estaba bien hecha.)

Even if they paid me, I wouldn't go to their party. (Aunque me pagaran, no iría a la fiesta.)

I wouldn't go to their party even if they paid me. (No iría a la fiesta aunque me pagaran.)
