5.2 Comparison




Adverbs early, late, soon and fast make the comparative and superlative with –er and –est, e.g.:



We had breakfast earlier than usual.
(Hemos desayunado más temprano de lo normal.)
They arrived later than me.
(Llegaron más tarde que yo.)
The rain stopped sooner than we expected.
(Paró de llover antes de lo que se esperaba.)
Sue can swim much faster than I can.
(Sue puede nadar mucho más rápido que yo.)

Other adverbs use more and most, e.g.:



He's behaving more sensibly these days.
(Últimamente se comporta de manera más sensata.)


Note that the superlative of adverbs is infrequent.
