4.2 Possessive adjectives

Forms: my, your, his, her, its, our, their.

In general we use possessive adjectives as in Spanish, but without the definite article, e.g.:

my car (Mi coche)
your house (Vuestra casa)

Notice, however, that English uses possessive adjectives in the following way, e.g.:

I'll go and brush my teeth.
(Me limpié los dientes.)
Sally has hurt her hand.
(Sally se ha hecho daño en la mano.)
Do you have trouble with your stomach?
(¿Tienes problemas en el estómago?)

In a formal style you will find one's (corresponding to ‘‘one’’), e.g.:

One should take care of one's relatives.
(Deberíamos cuidar a la familia.)
