8.1 Although, though, even though, even if

Although and though are connectors. They both express concession; though is more colloquial, although is more formal, e.g.:

Although/Though Jean had a headache, she managed to finish the assignment. (Encara que la Jean tenia mal de cap, va poder acabar la tasca.)

Though (but not although) is also a sentence adverb, e.g.:

Our prospects weren't very bright. We didn't do so badly, though. (Les nostres expectatives no eren molt prometedores. Tot i així, no ens en vam sortir tan malament.)

Even though and even if emphasise the notion of concession, e.g.:

Even though the survey was well carried out, it didn't prove anything. (Tot i que l'enquesta estava ben feta, no va demostrar res.)

The survey didn't prove anything even though it was well carried out. (L'enquesta no va demostrar res, tot i que estava ben feta.)

Even if they paid me, I wouldn't go to their party. (Encara que em paguessin, no aniria a la festa.)

I wouldn't go to their party even if they paid me. (No aniria a la festa encara que em paguessin.)
