Compare the use of enough (prou) and too (massa) with adjectives, adverbs and nouns:
| Adjectives |
Adverbs |
Countable nouns |
Uncountable nouns |
|---|---|---|---|
big enough |
quickly enough |
enough books |
enough paper |
too big |
too quickly |
too many books |
too much paper |
Notice that enough goes after adjectives and adverbs, but normally before nouns, e.g.:
| Example | Catalan | |
| After adjectives | Are you warm enough? | Té prou calor? |
| Whisky is too strong for me | El whisky és massa fort per a mi | |
| This table is too heavy for me to move | Aquesta taula pesa massa per a poder-la moure jo. | |
| Before nouns | She didn't have enough money for a taxi. | No tenia prou diners per a un taxi. |
| Have we got enough butter to make a cake? | Tenim prou matega per a fer un pastís? | |
| There were too many people in the lift | Hi havia massa gent a l'ascensor. |
Note that too alone cannot go with nouns, so we cannot say:
too books, too paper
