8.6 So, too, neither/nor, either




We can use these words, with inversion and an auxiliary verb, when it is unnecessary to repeat information that is already clear.



Jane plays tennis and so do I.
(Jane juega a tenis y yo también.)
Jane plays tennis and I do too.
(Jane juega a tenis y yo también.)
I don't eat meat and neither/nor does Tim.
(No como carne y Tim tampoco.)
I don't eat meat and Tim doesn't either.
(No como carne y Tim tampoco.)
A: Tom can speak Chinese. (Tom sabe hablar chino.)
  B: So can his brother./His brother can too. (Su hermano también.)
C: Bill didn't take the exam. (Bill no hizo el examen.)
 D: Neither/Nor did Sally./Sally didn't either. (Sally tampoco.)
