In English, adverbs of place, time and manner can follow the verb or the direct object, e.g.:
Example | Spanish | |
Place | Were they playing there? | ¿Jugaban allí? |
We saw flags everywhere. | Vimos banderas por todas partes.
Time | You must come tomorrow. | Tienes que venir mañana. |
They brought all the books yesterday. | Trajeron todos los libros ayer.
Manner | He doesn't work quickly. | No trabaja rápidamente. |
Does she play tennis well? | ¿Juega bien a tenis? |
They cannot normally go between the verb and the object:
Does she play well tennis?
However, adverbs of time often go in initial position, e.g.:
![]() | Now they are preparing the lunch. (Ahora están preparando la comida.) |
![]() | Yesterday she visited 14 clients. (Ayer visitó a 14 clientes.) |
