5.3 Adverbs of place, time and manner

In English, adverbs of place, time and manner can follow the verb or the direct object, e.g.:

  Example Spanish
Place Were they playing there? ¿Jugaban allí?
We saw flags everywhere. Vimos banderas por todas partes.
Time You must come tomorrow. Tienes que venir mañana.
They brought all the books yesterday. Trajeron todos los libros ayer.
Manner He doesn't work quickly. No trabaja rápidamente.
Does she play tennis well? ¿Juega bien a tenis?

They cannot normally go between the verb and the object:

    Does she play well tennis?

However, adverbs of time often go in initial position, e.g.:

Now they are preparing the lunch.
(Ahora están preparando la comida.)
Yesterday she visited 14 clients.
(Ayer visitó a 14 clientes.)
