10.1 Spelling of adverbs

**Most adverbs are formed by adding –ly to the adjective**
Adjective		Comparative and Superlative
awful		awfully
clear		clearly
clever		cleverly
light		lightly
safe		safely
sure		surely

**If the adjective ends in –y, then this changes to -i before -ly**
Adjective		Comparative and Superlative
easy		easily
happy		happily
lucky		luckily

**If the adjective ends in –ble, then the -e changes to -y**
Adjective		Comparative and Superlative
possible		possibly
probable		probably
terrible		terribly

**If the adjective ends in –ic, add -ally**

dramatic		dramatically
fantastic		fantastically

**There are a few irregular adverbs**
