1.6.2 Past participle

Forms: gone, taken, walked, passed.

We can use past participles as adjectives and in the perfect and passive verb forms.

Notice the difference between the past participles gone and been:

Mary has gone to Paris.
(Mary ha ido a París.)
(This implies that Mary is in Paris now.)
James has been to Paris.
(James ha visitado París.)
(This implies that James is not in Paris now.)

For the spelling of regular past participles, see Spelling of past forms, for the spelling of irregular past participles, see Irregular verbs and see also reduced relative clauses.
