We can also make conditional sentences with unless (a menys que), as long as (sempre que) and provided (or providing) (that)(sempre que), e.g.:
| I can't help them unless they give me more information. (No les puc ajudar a menys que em donin més informació.) |
| Unless she finds the receipt, there is nothing we can do. (Si no troba el rebut, no podem fer-hi res.) |
| You can stay and watch as long as you keep quiet. (Us podeu quedar i mirar sempre que estigueu en silenci.) |
| They will sign the contract provided/providing the new clause is inserted. (Firmaran el contracte sempre que la nova clàusula s'hi inclogui.) |
| Provided/providing that we finish by tomorrow, they will pay us at the end of this month. (Sempre que acabem demà, cobrarem al final d'aquest mes.) |
Notice that in case is similar, but it does not express a condition, e.g.:
| I'll take my umbrella in case it rains. (M'enduré el paraigua per si plou.) |
| They packed extra jerseys in case the weather turned cold. (Van empaquetar més jerseis per si feia més fred.) |
