8.2 As if, as though




We use these expressions to express how a situation seems, e.g.:



It looks as if/as though it's going to rain.
(Sembla que plourà.)
She talks as if/as though she understands all about it.
(Parla com si entengués la situació.)


In talking about present or future time, the verb following as if and as though is present if the appearance is (probably) real, but past if the appearance is not, e.g.:



She talks as if/as though she understands all about it.
(Parla com si entengués la situació.)
She talks as if/as though she understood all about it.
(Parla com si entengués la situació.)
The man in black is giving orders as if/as though he's in charge.
(L'home de negre dóna ordres com si fos l'encarregat.)
The man in black is giving orders as if/as though he was in charge.
(L'home de negre dóna ordres com si fos l'encarregat.)
