5.3 Adverbs of place, time and manner

In English, adverbs of place, time and manner can follow the verb or the direct object, e.g.:

  Example Català
Place Were they playing there? Jugaven allà?
We saw flags everywhere. Vam veure banderes a tot arreu.
Time You must come tomorrow. Has de venir demà.
They brought all the books yesterday. Van portar tots els llibres ahir.
Manner He doesn't work quickly. No treballa ràpidament.
Does she play tennis well? Juga bé a tennis?

They cannot normally go between the verb and the object:

    Does she play well tennis?

However, adverbs of time often go in initial position, e.g.:

Now they are preparing the lunch.
(Ara preparen el dinar.)
Yesterday she visited 14 clients.
(Ahir va visitar 14 clients.)
