11.9 Each, every

Both each and every can correspond to cada, but their uses are not exactly the same. Each tends to mean cada individu, while every book is similar in meaning to all (the) books, e.g.:

Each book has been signed by the author. (Cada llibre ha estat firmat per l'autora.)

Every book has been signed by the author. (Cada llibre ha estat firmat per l'autora.)

Each of the books has been signed by the author. (Cada un dels llibres ha estat firmat per l'autora.)

Every one of the books has been signed by the author. (Cada un dels llibres ha estat firmat per l'autora.)

The tickets are twenty euros each. (Les entrades valen vint euros cadascuna.)

With units of time and money, every is usual, e.g.:

I see her every morning. (La veig cada matí.)

We practise every Tuesday and Thursday. (Fem pràctiques cada dimarts i dijous.)

There's a bus every ten minutes. (Hi ha un autobús cada deu minuts.)

You get interest on every pound you save. (Reps interès per cada lliure que estalvies.)

Everyone (one word) or everybody means tothom, e.g.:

Everyone (everybody) passed the exam. (Tothom va aprovar l'examen.)

The company gave everyone (everybody) a 5% bonus. (L'empresa va donar un bo de 5% a tothom.)
